Our Founder

Michael Luthaka

—Michael Luthaka was born normally in Richmond KZN. His life changed in October 2006, when he was diagnosed with CAUDA EQUINA DISORDER which affected the functioning of his lower half. —When he came out of the hospital in 2007, he started to realise that there are no facilities in Richmond, to help people with disabilities to face the challenges they had acquired. —

Most people with disabilities here, in Richmond, used to stay at home, the only time you will see them in town is when they going to collect a grant or going to see the doctor. —Children with disabilities were refused enrolment in most schools around Richmond. —Employment was only a dream for people with disabilities. —Not a single project was available. —

In 2008, He established an Organization – Richmond Riders and Runners Club, which fought for the rights for PWD’s (persons with disabilities). —In 2014 his disability situation deteriorated when he was involved in a car accident, which affected his spinal cord between T1 and T4. —In 2016, with the help from Operation Jumpstart Association:  He opened a disabled centre known as the Hand of Hope Disabled Centre. The Centre provides different skills to youth with learning disabilities. Today this is the Hand of Hope Special School.
